TIPS
Homeowners Insurance Coverage Checklist:
- Make sure you speak to your agent on an annual basis to inform them of any changes you have made to your Residence or your Commercial Property that year.
- Things like a new hardwood floor, new plumbing, an addition or dormer, or even new windows should be gone over with your agent to ensure the proper coverage.
- Higher deductibles may lower your premiums, however, a point to remember is that emergencies rarely happen when you are ready for them.
Sometimes it is hard to come up with the money to cover a large deductable that you had not planned on. There is no rule of thumb regarding your deductable amount. It should simply be based on your personal financial situation or comfort level.
Discuss this with your insurance provider. – ASK QUESTIONS!
Like the old saying, “The only bad question is the one left unasked.”
What if my sewer backs up?
What if the septic tank ruptures?
Is there coverage for outdated electric or plumbing?
What about my furniture, clothing, and personal property?
Tornado, fallen tree, burglary… am I covered?
Home is where the heart is…
And in many instances, it is a family’s largest investment. Protecting it and everything under the roof may seem like a daunting task, but by following a few basic strategies you can simplify the task.
1. Discuss all coverage’s with your agent.
2. Have an electrical safety inspection done annually.
3. Have a plumbing inspection done annually.
4. Properly insulate your home to protect against frozen pipes, and ice dams.
5. Ensure Smoke/Gas/Carbon Monoxide detectors are functional.
6. Be aware of Dead/Dying/Sick trees around your home. They can pose a threat to your
home especially when ice becomes a factor.
7. Inspect your Crawlspace frequently for water, mold, pests, etc.
8. Inspect your roof annually. (Nests, missing shingles-tiles, branches, etc.)
9. Landscaping – Ensure that your outside landscaping is properly pitched AWAY from
your home and any necessary drainage has been allowed.
10. In the event that a catastrophe happens…
